The Awakening Fast
21 Days of Prayer and Fasting

Sunday, January 12, 2009 through Sunday, February 1, 2009

Purpose of Fasting:
Fasting is to abstain from food or to be absent of something that you relied upon in order to discipline self. Also, it means to decline in one area of abundance in order to grow abundantly in another area.

The purpose of fasting and praying is this (Is. 58:6-12):
1. To loose bonds of wickedness.
2. To undo heavy burdens.
3. To let the oppressed go free.
4. To break every yoke.
5. To share bread with the hungry.
6. To bring the poor and outcast into the house of God.
7. To cover the naked.
8. To purge the church from the flesh and self.

As we pray and obey, the promise of God is:
1. Your light shall break forth as the morning.
2. Healing shall spring forth speedily.
3. Righteousness will go before you.
4. God’s glory will be your rear guard.
5. The Lord will answer and say, ‘Here I am’.

Requirements:
1. We will be fasting 21 days.
2. Remember to pray and/or read your Bible during the meal time when you would normally be eating.

The important thing is that there is no power in the foods eaten or not eaten. The power is in consecrating our body, soul and spirit unto the Lord for a focused time of prayer and fasting. The Word teaches us that when we draw near to the Lord that He will draw near to us. Setting this time apart for focused and more intense devotion to our Almighty God is what is much more important than the food list. When viewing the food list the guidelines serve well since they are foods that are good for our body and yet there is a level of restriction that provides the discipline element necessary for a fast.
